HI -nyam2 today let talk about AHCI and maybe little bit about MAC OSX 10.5
WHAT THE HECK IS AHCI? -argh
AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) enables native command queuing and hot-plugging through SATA host controllers (Serial-ATA) for your hard drives. In many scenarios it enables more efficient multi-tasking. Vista was the first Windows OS to support AHCI out of the box, where as Windows 7 does the same. But an issue with AHCI is that if you install the OS without enabling AHCI in the BIOS, enabling it after installation will render your OS unusable. This is because Windows disable the AHCI driver since it is not needed during the installation.
For someone who run Windows 7 and dual boot with MAC OSX OS then this might become your BIG problem. since mac osx 10.5 requirement AHCI as sata mode then this will be problem if you forget to set AHCI sata mode in BIOS Confg during Windows 7 Installation. -isk
Situation:
-Unable to boot Windows 7 If “AHCI” as sata mode
-Unable to boot MAC OSX If “IDE” as sata mode
Problem:
-mac osx will show “waitting for root devices” if u set “IDE” as sata mode.
-Windows 7 will crash “Blue Death Of Screen” during startup. if you set “AHCI” as sata mode.
Solution:
Dont Worry! -uwek you still can fix this problem, you got 2 option to fix it.
- Go to BIOS confg, set AHCI as sata mode and re-install Windows 7 *this pain way*
- Modify up registry or download .reg from link below. “After this you’ll have to restart your computer, go to BIOS and enable AHCI. When you log in to Windows again, you’ll notice the installation of drivers for AHCI. Another restart will be required to finish the driver installation.”
Just download the following file and run it. You’ll still need to go through the steps of restarting your computer and enabling AHCI in the BIOS.
Hopefully, you’ll find a somewhat noticeable improvement in multitasking, specially if you’re a notebook user. Of course with the variety of PC hardware, experience many vary.
